Welcome to the website of Coalville Heritage Society.

Coalville is situated in North West Leicestershire and is a relatively new town dating back only about 175 years. The discovery of rich coal seams in the area attracted several industrial entrepreneurs (including George and Robert Stephenson) to lay railways and sink mines. Because of these mines and the miners that worked them grew the town of Coalville.

On this site we intend to describe the heritage left by these early miners and engineers, we intend to document the town both past and present because we believe that in today lies tomorrows heritage.
Please be patient as this site is purely a voluntary undertaking and will take some time to formulate and prepare, for now it is, to use that much overworked (on the web at least) phrase…. “UNDER CONSTRUCTION”.
